We’d love to have you join our team and become a
University Hospital Volunteer! Here’s some information
to help get you started Types
of Volunteers
Volunteers are categorized into two categories
- adults and juniors. To be an adult volunteer, you
must be over the age of 18. To be a junior volunteer,
you must be age 16 or over and have your parent's permission.
Hours
Adult volunteers are asked to commit a minimum
of five hours per week; junior volunteers, a minimum
of three hours per week or four hours per weekend.
Behavior
The experience of volunteering comes with a
great deal of responsibility. Our first job is to always
be helpful – we must also be courteous, dependable,
punctual and maintain confidentiality as we learn new
things and meet new people.
Volunteer Orientation
Manual (On-line)
During your orientation, you will be provided
with the Volunteer Orientation Manual. This in-depth
guide will help you to better understand the expectations
of our volunteers. It will also help you determine if
volunteering is the right choice for you. To

Applying
for a Volunteer Assignment
There are three ways to apply to be a volunteer:
Online
Click here to access the

By Mail
Call the Volunteer Office at (973) 972-4064, Monday
– Friday, 9:00 – 3:00 PM, Room C437 and
request an application by mail. Mail back the completed
application to: Volunteer Services, University Hospital,
150 Bergen Street, Room C437, Newark, NJ 07103, Attn:
Department of Volunteer Services.
In-Person
Stop by the Volunteer Office, Monday – Friday,
9:00 – 3:00 PM, and pick up an application. Fill
it out in the office or at home. If completing the application
from home, follow directions for mailing as shown above.
