Orthopaedics - Musculoskeletal Oncology and Limb-Salvage
The Division performs biopsy, diagnosis, and complete treatment of all bone, joint and soft-tissue tumors including benign, primary malignant and secondary cancers in children and adults. Tumors requiring cryosurgery, chemo-radiation, brachytherapy and intraoperative radiotherapy are also treated. Other services include allograft and endoprosthetic reconstruction for limb-salvage and limb-sparing procedures; major tumor resections with endoprosthetic and allograft reconstructions including several new techniques for preserving limb growth in pediatric patients after tumor treatment.Treatments are also available for infectious problems, including those requiring plastic or vascular procedures. Major amputations (including hemipelvectomy and forequarter amputation) and prosthetic fitting for rehabilitation are also performed. The Division offers several treatment options for metastatic bone disease including prophylactic stabilization-fixation of pathological fractures and chemo-radiation.
