Ophthalmology - Ophthalmic Plastic, Reconstructive and Orbital Surgery

This section offers medical and surgical treatment of thyroid disease, treatment of ptosis, cosmetic surgery, and botulinum (Botox) toxin treatment of blepharospasm. Specializing in the surgery and management of orbital tumors, the staff is highly experienced in reconstructive, plastic and cosmetic surgery of the eyelids, tear ducts, socket and orbit. The most sophisticated surgical techniques and equipment including laser resurfacing and endoscopic surgery are used.

Surgery - Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery

The Division of Plastic Surgery offers diverse surgical services to treat a comprehensive range of disorders and injuries, as well as elective cosmetic procedures. Cosmetic surgery is a major focus of the division, with a special concentration on facial rejuvenation (facelift, browlift, eyelid surgery, rhinoplasty, ear surgery, etc.), and body contouring (liposuction, abdominoplasty, breast enhancement, and breast lifting), particularly after bariatric surgery or any significant weight loss.

Particular expertise is available in the reconstruction of tumor defects from oncologic procedures, including breast reconstruction and salivary gland treatment. The diagnosis and treatment of all varieties of skin cancer is another field of interest, including reconstruction following Mohs' surgery.

The treatment of complex wounds includes assessment and treatment with the latest modalities. FDA-sponsored clinical trials of developing advanced technologies for wound healing are offered for qualified patients at no cost.

Congenital deformities, such as cleft lip and palate, are treated in concert with a multidisciplinary Craniofacial Center. All other deformities, including traumatic, post-radiation, post-surgical, etc., are managed using the latest surgical techniques, including extensive experience with microsurgical procedures.

Hand surgery, including treatment of industrial accidents, is a specialty of the division. A center for re-plantation and microsurgery is based at University Hospital offering treatment for traumatic amputations.
