The Comprehensive Stroke Center at University Hospital is organized with a team approach designed to provide acute and long- term comprehensive, individualized care. Led by the Center director, Dr. Jawad F. Kirmani, the team consists of highly experienced professionals representing a wide array of disciplines and specialties. The ready availability of this breadth of multidisciplinary expertise is the hallmark of an academically based program and provides each patient with the most appropriate diagnostic and therapeutic options.

Jawad F. Kirmani, MD
Director, Stroke Center
Assistant Professor, Neurology and Neurosciences
Diplomate American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology; Diplomate American Board of Vascular Neurology

Dr. Kirmani joined the University Hospital after receiving his training in Neurology at Ohio State University. He completed his Stroke and Neurointensive care fellowships at SUNY, at Buffalo and subsequently trained in Endovascular Surgical Neuroradiology at New Jersey Medical School. He has an extensive experience as a clinical teacher and researcher. He has established a promising track record for scholarship and has more than 60 peer-reviewed publications and abstracts. He has written several book chapters and invited review articles. He is a member of several national and International Professional Societies including the American Heart Association/Stroke Council, American Academy of Neurology. He is also the founding member of the Society for Vascular and Interventional Neurology. He has lectured widely to peers, faculty, residents and students during symposia, grand rounds and other venues where he is eager to share with everyone the exciting advances in the field. His research and clinical interests include ischemic and hemorrhagic stroke, aneurysm treatment, interventional neuroendovascular surgery, neurointensive care, and neurocadiology.

Stephen Kamin, MD
Interim Chairman, Neurology and Neurosciences
Associate Professor, Neurology and Neurosciences

Dr. Kamin received his medical degree from Harvard Medical School and completed his residency at New York Hospital-Cornell Medical School. He is board certified in neurology. In addition to his clinical and research interests in cerebrovascular diseases, Dr. Kamin has particular expertise in multiple sclerosis. He is presently the chair of the department as well the program director of the residency. He is a member of several national and International Professional Societies including the American Academy of Neurology.

Mustapha Ezzeddine, MD
Director, Neurointensive Care Unit
Assistant Professor, Neurology and Neurosciences

Dr. Ezzeddine received his medical degree from the American University of Beirut and completed a medical internship and neurology residency at Duke University, followed by a three year fellowship in stroke and neurointensive care at Massachusetts General Hospital. Dr. Ezzeddine’s research focus is on the use of monitoring techniques in general and neuroimaging in particular, to provide further insight into critical illnesses affecting the central nervous system, such as stroke and subarachonoid hemorrhage, and to guide novel therapeutic interventions.

Charles J. Prestigiacomo, MD
Assistant Professor, Departments of Neurological Surgery and Radiology

Dr. Prestigiacomo’s areas of clinical and research expertise include ruptured and unruptured intracranial aneurysms, arteriovenous malformations of the brain and spinal cord, and hemorrhagic and ischemic strokes. He trained at Columbia-Presbyterian Medical Center and was a fellow in endovascular surgery at Beth Israel Medical Center, New York.

Pansy Harris-Lane, RN, MSN, ACNP
Clinical Stroke Program Administrator

Ms. Harris-Lane, a native from Jamaica, received her undergraduate degree in nursing and graduate degree as an Acute Care Nurse Practitioner from Columbia University. She has over 10 years of experience as a trauma nurse and Neurology / Neurosurgical nurse.

Molly Jacob, RN, MSN, CCRN, APN-C
Advanced Practice Nurse, Critical Care Unit

Ms. Jacob received her undergraduate degree in nursing from India and a graduate degree as an adult nurse practitioner from the UMDNJ-School of Nursing. She is also certified in critical care nursing. Ms. Jacobs has close to two decades of critical care nursing experience.
