After a significant weight loss, either due to diet, exercise, weight loss surgery, or any combination, many people are plagued by excess hanging skin. Often this excess skin is in the arms, stomach, breasts and thighs. Usually, the person has worked very hard to achieve their weight loss and wants to further enhance their appearance. To remove this hanging skin, plastic surgeons have a variety of options, each dependent on the individual and their needs. In most cases, it is best to wait until the patient has been at their ideal weight for about one year, and weight loss has stabilized.

Some of the options open to patients may include an arm lift, thigh lift, breast lift, or body contouring. In certain cases, liposuction is used to remove fat before excess skin is cut out.

For any surgical procedure, patients should be certain they are selecting an experienced, licensed, board certified surgeon who understands their needs and desired outcome.
