Botox

Many wrinkle lines are caused by thin muscles under the surface pulling on the skin. If those muscles can be relaxed, the wrinkles will vanish. Removing wrinkles without surgery is possible in some cases through the use of Botox, a muscle relaxant. A purified, diluted form of botulinum toxin, Botox works by blocking the nerve stimulation of muscles. The muscles do not receive the message to contract, and they relax, thereby smoothing out the wrinkles. Botox is injected in minute amounts with a tiny needle. No anesthesia is necessary, and the risks are minimal. Botox is most effective when used around crow's feet, frown lines and forehead wrinkles. A secondary benefit is that botox treatment in the frown line region seems to lessen the severity of migraine headaches.

The treatment usually takes anywhere from a few days to a week to take effect. The benefits will last from 3-6 months.

Botox was approved by the FDA for the treatment of wrinkles, although physicians who used it in the past to alleviate eye spasms found that it also diminished nearby wrinkles.

Brow or Forehead Lift

This is a minimally invasive procedure that involves adjustments to the eyebrow position and reductions in forehead wrinkles through buttonhold incisions in the scalp. This technique is so powerful that it has reordered the priorities in facial rejuvenation. It is now possible to safely and easily restore the youthful appearance of the upper third of the face.

Facial implants

Chin and cheek implants are used to enhance the chin area and the mid-facial region, creating a better facial balance. In many cases, chin and cheek implants can delay the need for a full facelift. Patients undergoing Rhinoplasty often elect to have chin implants as well, to give their face better equilibrium.

Skin Fillers

The search for a stable, safe, predictable injectable material has been a theme throughout the history of plastic surgery. There have been many disasters along the way. At times people have been injected with mineral oil, olive oil, paraffin, and other chemicals with horrible consequences. Even in recent times, some patients have been illegally injected with liquid silicone in an effort to contour their face or body. The long-term complications of liquid silicone injection can be devastating. At the Center, we are committed to using only safe techniques that will provide our patients with the results they want without compromising their health or well-being.

Several new products were recently approved by the FDA and are avilable at our Center. These include: Restylane, Scultra, fat injections and others

Ear Surgery (Otoplasty)

Otoplasty or ear surgery can help correct ears that stick out and achieve a more normal appearance. A relatively simple operation, in otoplasty the incisions are hidden behind the ears. The ear cartilages (structural supports) are reshaped and fixed in place. Most insurance carriers currently consider otoplasty to be a non-covered cosmetic procedure.

Eyelid Lift (Blepharoplasty)

Cosmetic alteration of the eyelids has been and remains one of the most popular types of aesthetic surgery for men and women alike. Eyelid surgery has the potential to make patients look younger, more rested, even happier without making them look like someone else.

There have been great advances over the last two decades in the understanding of the eyelids and in the technical ability to alter them. Not long ago there was only one operation that could be offered for the upper or lower eyelids. Now there are a myriad of approaches to eyelid surgery including: hiding incisions on the inside of the eyelids; fat transfers; skin pinch techniques; and a variety of lid tightening options to prevent that tell-tale, pulled down look.

Another significant advance is the increased understanding of the relationship between the eyelids and the rest of the face. The upper lids are intimately related to the brow and forehead. Droopy eyebrows are addressed at the same time as the upper lids for the optimal result. Similarly, the mid-face (the cheeks and cheekbones) can greatly influence the appearance of the lower lids. The entire face, not just the area of primary concern, is assessed to determine the best course of action. It is important for all patients to understand not just the nature of the surgery, but also the limitations. Appropriate expectations are likely to lead to a happy patient with a much improved appearance.

Facelift (Rhytidectomy)

It is important to understand that there is no one facelift technique. The "modern facelift" is actually a variety of operations that can be tailored to meet a patient's highly individual needs.

In the beginning, facelifts were performed by stretching the skin as tightly as possible. Not only did this result in an unnaturally tight appearance, but the positive effects did not last that long. Fortunately, that is no longer the case.

Today's face-lifting techniques have benefited from the last generation of surgical refinements. A layered approach can now be used to tighten the structures under the skin. The outcome is a smoother, more natural looking, longer-lasting approach to restoring the youthful appearance of the face.

Liposuction and structural fat grafting can allow us to precisely modify smaller areas of the face.

An improved understanding of facial aging has led to earlier intervention. It is far better to act early and correct problems as they develop, rather than to wait until the face has an aged appearance. This will avoid the difficult problem of trying to catch-up.

The goal is to carefully evaluate a patient's concerns as well as their features and to plan a face-lifting procedure that will address their individual needs and provide a natural look.

Nasal Contouring (Rhinoplasty)

Rhinoplasty, more commonly known as a "nose job", is a procedure enjoyed by the young and old and by men and women. There are many ways to modify and improve the appearance of the nose. Each patient is thoroughly evaluated and treated in a manner tailored to meet their needs.

When considering rhinoplasty, it is important to remember the nose has a very important function: breathing. It sounds obvious, but very often and with inexperienced surgeons, the focus is on the cosmetic. There should never be any sacrifice of the functional role of the nose in an effort to make it look better. It is important to select a surgeon who is fully trained and board certified in plastic surgery.
