The UMDNJ-University Hospital Liver Transplant Program
welcomes referral requests from physicians or directly
from prospective patients. The Division of Transplant
Surgery office telephone number is (973) 972-7218.
Referrals should be made Monday through Friday between
the hours of 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. For
physicians referring patients
If you have a patient that you would like to be evaluated
for liver transplantation or hepatobiliary surgery,
please call the transplant office and leave a message
with the secretary. One of the transplant surgeons or
physician assistants will return your call as soon as
possible to obtain clinical information regarding your
patient. You will be asked to provide the patient's
telephone number so we may call the patient to schedule
an appointment. You will also be asked to provide the
following:
- most recent laboratory test results
- radiology reports (ultrasound, CT scan ,or MRI,
if any)
- endoscopy reports
- liver biopsy report, if any
These reports may be faxed to our office at (973) 972-6227.
If your patient had a recent CT or MRI scan, please
ask that they obtain copies of the films from the appropriate
facility and bring them to their appointment.
For patients referring themselves
Please call the transplant office and leave a message
with the secretary. One of the physician assistants
will return your call as soon as possible to ask you
some questions about your health and the reason your
physician asked you to contact our program. You may
be required to speak with the financial coordinator
about insurance issues or if you do not have insurance
before an appointment is made. Once you are given an
appointment, you must obtain the following from your
physician's office:
- copies of your most recent laboratory tests
- copies of any X-ray reports
- copies of any endoscopy reports
- copies of liver biopsy report, if any
If you had a CT or MRI scan recently, you will be asked
to obtain copies of the X-ray films from the hospital
or radiology office at which you had the scan performed.
This is extremely important, and you need to have them
for your first office visit with us.
