Leading in Patient Care: In 2012, U.S. News and World Report rated University Hospital one of the “Best Hospitals in Northern New Jersey.” Our high performance and innovation in specialties such as cardiology, orthopedics, stroke care and trauma have earned broad recognition by the national hospital accrediting agency, and, likewise, by monitors of quality of care in academic health centers nationally. Furthermore, our commitment to quality in healthcare delivery is evident in the number of satisfied patients who receive their care at University Hospital. Approximately one-third of our patients emanate from outside Essex County and the U.S., reflecting the breadth of services and expertise patients find at UH.
Training the Next Generation of New Jersey’s Doctors: UH is New Jersey’s largest Graduate Medical Education site for students studying to become physicians and for graduate students pursuing other healthcare professions. Our success as an academic health center is strongly related to the affiliations with schools and programs on our campus.
Unmatched Achievements in Quality Care: University Hospital is currently the only hospital in Northern New Jersey certified in Advanced Heart Failure care by The Joint Commission. For its success in treating Heart Failure patients, UH earned a HealthGrades® 5-Star rating in that specialty in 2012. For outstanding care in Stroke and Heart Failure care, the hospital was recognized for Quality Achievements by the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association in 2012-2013. In addition, University Hospital is one of only three hospitals in New Jersey to receive the HealthGrades Neurosurgery Excellence Award™ in 2012.
